Dr. Irene Georgakoudi’s work focuses on the development of spectroscopic imaging approaches that rely on endogenous sources of optical contrast to characterize tissues. She is particularly interested in the use of non-invasive methods to extract quantitative biochemical, morphological and organizational cell and tissue information.

Dr. Gupta’s lab studies DNA repair processes in cancer development, metastatic progression, and responses to therapy. The primary objective of the research is to understand the diverse mechanisms that give rise to genomically complex human cancers, and to exploit this information to develop more effective therapies.

Piyush Gupta, Ph.D.

Dr. Gupta studies the mechanisms that generate and maintain cellular diversity in adult tissues and how the subversion of these mechanisms contributes to cancer. His laboratory investigates the genetic and cellular processes that govern adult- and cancer stem cell self-renewal and differentiation.

Joshua LaBaer is one of the nation’s foremost investigators in the rapidly expanding field of personalized diagnostics. His efforts focus on the discovery and validation of biomarkers — unique molecular fingerprints of disease — which can provide early warning for those at risk of major illnesses, including cancer and diabetes.

Anthony Philippakis, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Philippakis has a long-standing interest in developing computational methods to analyze large collections of biological data to make predictions or discover new biology. He studied computational methods for understanding transcriptional regulation during his PhD and also contributed key methods for quality score recalibration and variant calling that are now instantiated in the Genome Analysis Toolkit. He now leads the Data Sciences Platform at the Broad Institute and focuses on creating scalable computational platforms for aggregating, analyzing and sharing genomic and clinical data.
